Claim your Space

Choose a corner of your home and make it your personal yoga paradise. It doesn’t have to be a space away from your kids or without your pets or without any outside noise. During your practice you need to be relatively undisturbed but also at peace with your surroundings. So choose a spot that is accessible for you everyday and also makes you feel comfortable. Keeping a constant spot for your yoga mat also helps you get into flow during each practice session quicker.

Use essential props

While you may not want to splurge on yoga equipment right at the beginning of your journey, remember that being prepared for your yoga sessions will make you feel confident and help you go a long way in your practice. You might want to consider investing in a basic yoga mat that can provide you with good grip and support, some yoga blocks to start with basic asanas and a cushion. The good news is that you can find some great quality yoga equipment without burning a hole in your pocket and they take up minimal storage space at home.

Create a mood

Once you have designated a yoga space in your home and you have all the essential equipment that you need for your practice, then set a mood that uplifts and invites you to practice yoga. For example, if you prefer the quiet morning time, try to wake up early and practice yoga at sunrise. If you use yoga as a tool to relax after the day’s work, carve out a special time after your work and errands end for the day. Maybe choose a soundtrack to practice with or light a candle or a diffuser to set the mood. These little things may seem insignificant but they can heighten your yoga experience and keep you wanting to continue your practice rituals daily.

Don’t forget to breathe

Yoga places utmost importance on breathing techniques or breathwork. Breathing exercises have paramount health benefits such as improving cardiovascular health, controlling anxiety, improving posture, increasing energy levels and improving immunity. Breathing and meditation after your yoga session will help you feel refreshed and grounded. In our fast paced lives, we don’t really pay attention to our breathing. So during and after your yoga session is the perfect time for some breathwork. The more consistent you are with breathing exercises, the easier it will be to apply those principles during your day to day activities, which means you will be able to get the maximum benefit out of them.

Set limits

Any yoga teacher will tell you that one of the most important aspects of yoga is that it’s a personal experience for each individual. Listen to your body and allow it to show you how much you can push it. Don’t over exert yourself. Instead increase your stamina and flexibility slowly for better results. The majority of the yoga poses that we see on Instagram and other social media require considerable strength and flexibility which takes time to build. So don’t rush into a crow pose and then get demotivated when you are unable to hold your posture. Raise your limits slowly and see your body unfolding. Take breaks in your practice whenever you need to and practice consistently to achieve your desired results.

Set an intention

Perhaps the most important point in starting your home workout is to set an intention, be consistent and follow through with it. Yoga can seem challenging to beginners but the more you practice, the more you will be surprised with what your body can do for you. Set smaller goals for yourself and work towards achieving them. You can start with practising 10 minutes of asanas everyday or just 5 poses each day and slowly update these goals. With regular practice, these goals will help you do effortless headstands and much more. Remember that habits take time to form and give yourself that time; you won’t regret it.

We are sure that these tips will set you on the right path and will help you make yoga a part of your daily routine. Soon you will meet a healthier, bendier and a more confident you. If you are looking for some basic yoga equipment to get you started, check out the Leviosa product range here.
